problem

battery full,
FPS is low again

The gaming laptop draws 180–330 W at full performance. Since its own battery cannot provide this, it reduces the power limit of the graphics card when unplugged. Even if the battery is 100%, the game slows down and rendering and model training takes longer. The solution is usually to carry kilos of adapters with you and look for a socket.

How does it work

three modes,
single box

FRAGWATT is connected to the laptop with a KX-Link cable and a plug suitable for your brand. The same port also works in reverse: it charges the laptop's own adapter FRAGWATT with 330 W via the KX-D terminal.

WITHOUT SOCKET

On the beach, on the train, on the LAN

The laptop operates at full performance without touching its own battery. The output stage is two-phase: 98.4% efficiency at 330 W, reducing to single phase at light load.

HYBRID

GaN instead of brick adapter

If an outlet is available, a palm-sized USB-C GaN charger carries the base load, handles the FRAGWATT peak moments, and charges itself at idle. With 240 W GaN, AAA gaming lasted 3 hours at full power.

CHARGING

USB-C or your own adapter

When the two are installed together, the Trio charges to 80% in 36 minutes. If left on charge for a long time, the desk mode keeps the cells at 65%.

Security

three layer
protection

The layers work independently of each other.

  1. Battery front end (hardware)

Breaks short circuit in ~100 µs (SPICE: 213 A, 103 µs). Over/under voltage, current and temperature protections are independent of the software.

  2. BMS software

Reduces power from 45 °C, cuts off at 60 °C; balances cells; It does not open an exit until the end is recognized. It passes 82 automated tests.

  3. Secondary protection and insurance

If the cell exceeds 4.35 V, a separate protection IC blows the 3-prong fuse. E-fuse and 22 V surge lock at the output protect the laptop.

Target certifications: UN 38.3, IEC 62133-2, IEC 62368-1, CE (LVD, EMC, RED), RoHS. It will be completed before mass production.

frequently asked questions

FAQ

Why can't it be 1 hour of LLM training with a single module?

Approximately 255 Wh battery is required to power a laptop that draws 235 W for 1 hour. The only battery that can be carried on the plane without approval can be a maximum of 100 Wh. That's why we divided the FRAGWATT into 97 Wh modules: Trio (3 modules) lasts 71 minutes in the LLM training and 92 minutes in the ECO profile.

Can I take it to the beach or camping?

Yes; In the simulation, LLM training with Trio at 35 °C in the shade kept the cells at 38.5 °C, increased to 41.4 °C in direct sun, and the power was not reduced. But the FRAGWATT is not certified against water and sand (IP rating): the fan grill is open. Use in the shade or inside your bag, away from sand and water; Do not charge if it gets wet.

Why isn't it thinner than 24mm?

The diameter of the 21700 cells inside is 21.6 mm; We go down to 24 mm with lower and upper thermal pads and 0.8 mm aluminum. A thinner one means either a low-current cell (reduces FPS) or a shorter-lived high-current pouch cell. We stuck with the 21700 to keep the 2-year warranty and 330W; We went from 32 mm to 24 mm by taking the electronics from the top of the cells and moving them to the vertical boards.

Is a GaN charger necessary?

No. FRAGWATT is designed to work without a plug. The GaN device is only useful when there is an outlet: you can run the laptop at full power and charge the FRAGWATT with a handheld device instead of the laptop's own brick adapter. You can also use your laptop's own adapter with the KX-D tip for charging.

Is there any problem with the hot exhaust of the laptop?

In the simulation, even in front of 55 °C exhaust air, the cells remained below 56 °C; The smart fan turned off to avoid drawing in hot air and a "hot air" warning appeared on the screen. However, it is best to place the device away from the exhaust with a 1 m cable.

Will it affect my laptop's warranty?

The FRAGWATT powers the laptop at the voltage and power rating listed on the original adapter's label; The output cannot be turned on unless the terminal is recognized and there is an overvoltage lock on the output. We will publish the measurement results on a model basis during the testing phase.

Can I carry it on the plane?

Yes. Core and each Pack individually are 97.2Wh; According to IATA rules, spare batteries under 100 Wh can be carried in cabin baggage without airline approval. Carry modules separately in flight. The airline may have its own rules.

Is it difficult to plug the modules together?

No. Just slide the Pack close to the bottom of the Core: four pairs of N52 magnets in the corners self-align and snap the module into place, and the 12-pin pogo connector makes contact. Core recognizes the new Pack, soft-charges the bus capacitors and turns it on if the voltages are equal; It's also safe to plug in with the outlet open. To detach, simply push the slide lock and slide the module.

How is it different from the adapter? Will I really save space in the bag?

A 330W laptop adapter comes with a brick body, a long DC cable going to the laptop, and a separate power cord going to the outlet; That means three pieces and meters of cable in the bag. The FRAGWATT has a single 1 m KX-Link cable, no socket plug. The Solo set weighs 0.73 kg: you can throw it in a lightweight shoulder bag like you would carry a MacBook, but the machine in your hand becomes a full-fledged gaming laptop.

What should I do for my laptop's own battery?

We recommend that you turn on the charging limit in your laptop's software (such as ASUS Battery Health Charging, Lenovo Conservation Mode, MSI Battery Master). Thus, the FRAGWATT's energy goes to the game, not to charge the laptop battery.
